Supporting Teaching and Learning, Certificate

This course is designed for people aged over 19 and will equip you with the knowledge and skills required to become a teaching assistant. The Level 2 Certificate is ideal for learners just starting out in their career. You will gain the work experience you need to get your career off to a strong start and you’ll achieve a nationally recognised NCFE CACHE teaching assistant qualification.

The course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to support pupils in primary, secondary or SEN schools and colleges. You’ll learn about significant stages of development between birth and 19 years of age, and how to build positive relationships and communicate effectively with young people.

You will learn about the actions you can take to safeguard children and young people, and how you can support them in developing self-esteem, independence, and abilities for learning.

You’ll benefit from being taught by tutors who have previously been teachers or head teachers and have a wealth of experience in the sector.

You will be expected to secure a placement of your choice prior to the course starting for a minimum of 6 hours per week. Confirmation of this will be required before being able to enrol on the programme. As well as your college day and placement, you will be expected to undertake between 8 to 10 hours self-study each week.

Entry Requirements

You will need to attend a short interview to gain a place on the course. Acceptance is dependent on securing a placement in a school, unless you are employed at the school supporting learning. You will need to arrange this and bring a letter form the school. It is also dependent on a satisfactory DBS check which is for workforce and not for volunteers. College can support you through the DBS process.

An e-portfolio system is used for recording evidence so a basic knowledge of ICT is an advantage, but again we can help you with this. A basic understanding of English and Maths is also required
