Weston College was delighted to welcome back its alumnus, Dave Trevaskus (now Head of Retail Training at the LEGO Group), for a full day of workshops on Thursday 2nd of October. Dave’s visit brought energy, insight, and a genuine sense of connection as he shared lessons from his own journey and encouraged learners and staff to see every challenge as a stepping stone and to encourage a playful mindset.

Last month, our Carpentry learners kickstarted the first stages of the Lasseter’s Bar & Kitchen renovations by taking apart the old benches and outdoor seating area from the front of the property which they will repurpose as part of their Social Action Project.

Last week, our Music and Production students got the chance to sit in on a live performance from the band, ‘The Peripheries’, and help them record an album within our Michael Eavis Performance suite, which links directly to the HE Recording Studio at Loxton Campus.  

Health and Social Care, Certificate

The Health & Active Living Skills Centre at Loxton Campus is purpose-built to provide an exceptional learning experience and to meet the demands of the industry. The centre’s cutting-edge facilities include a simulation training hospital ward and hi-tech medical mannequins, allowing you hands-on experience with clinical procedures. Industry-leading virtual reality headsets and 360 video software immerse you in real-world healthcare scenarios.

What will I study?

This course is designed as an introduction to Health and Social Care, delivering a solid foundation for individuals interested in making a positive impact in the lives of others. Through a combination of theoretical learning and practical training, you will gain an understanding of healthcare principles, ethical considerations, and patient-centred care.

You will cover a range of topics and get involved in projects and activities designed to build your confidence and give you a real insight into the careers within Health and Social Care.

The course will help you develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to progress onto a Level 2 programme or apprenticeship. You will get the opportunity to gain industry experience through simulated practice and a work placement.

How will you be assessed?

Assessed through written coursework, projects, presentations and practical experiences.

Entry Requirements

  • 2 GCSE’S with at least a 2 in English and Maths
  • Clear DBS to allow for placement.
  • Interest in working in the health and social care sector

Uniform Information

Kit will be clarified during induction; we do not expect them to buy this before.

4-5 days a week, 9-4.45

On 24th September, Weston College welcomed over 900 local people to the Winter Gardens for the ‘What Next’ Careers Showcase for Year 10’s and 11’s. 

A key date in the calendar, ‘What Next?’ is one of the biggest events of the year, showcasing so many opportunities for year 11 students, and this year’s event did not disappoint. Attendees had the opportunity to find out more about their potential career pathway; from meeting Weston College staff from all faculties, to speaking with a wide range of employers.
