Last term, Weston College hosted an NFL Flag UK programme for teachers from across North Somerset. During the session, two of our Sport & Fitness lecturers, Dan Pratlett and Morgan Sealey, took part, giving Weston College the opportunity to become an official NFL Flag School and introduce non-contact flag football to our students. 

Media Students to Take Part in the Upcoming Global On Air Broadcast

Weston College is delighted to announce its involvement in an upcoming project, On Air, on 22-23rd October in partnership with Media Talent Manifesto (MTM). On Air 2026 is the world’s largest student-led broadcast, bringing together students and industry partners from across the globe for a 24-hour, multi-channel, student-led broadcast. 

English, GCSE

If you haven’t achieved your English GCSE, we can help you gain the qualification needed to take your career or education to the next step.

It doesn’t matter how old you are, this course will help you to improve your reading, writing, and communication skills to a level expected by employers.

This 32-week course has three hours of tuition per week – you can either study in the day or at in an evening class, whichever suits you best. You will be required to do a small amount of study at home in your own time.

This course will allow you to progress onto other college courses, where you can develop new skills.

Subjects/Topics Covered

We will cover a wide range of topics, all with the aim of improving your communication skills.

Some of the subjects we will cover include:

  • Influential writing
  • Compare ideas and perspectives
  • Communicate clearly, effectively and imaginatively
  • Communicating with different audiences
  • Organise information and ideas, using structural and grammatical features to support coherence and cohesion
  • Use a range of vocabulary and sentence structures for clarity, purpose and effect
  • Listen and respond appropriately to others
  • Use spoken Standard English effectively in speeches and presentations

Assessment Method

You will complete two exams in June and four written assessments during class time.

This isn’t anything to worry about – we will run revision sessions in the build up to exams.

Once you have applied for this course, we will arrange a short interview with a tutor who will find out about your current level of understanding and your future ambitions to ensure you start on the course most appropriate for you.
