This month, our Health & Social Care students took part in Future Skills Week, a week full of hands-on workshops, employer visits and essential training to ensure our students gain the crucial skills required for a career in the industry.  

Josh

During his first year at Weston College, Josh represented the academy U19 team, the 1st team, and attended England Colleges trials.

He played in all league fixtures and captained the team on multiple occasions, earning a 1st team contract with Weston-super-Mare AFC for this academic year.

Beyond football, Josh has coached younger players at Weston Football Club and supported local primary schools through his sports course. His achievements reflect his talent, dedication, and exceptional work ethic.

Thomas

Tom began the year uncertain about his next vocational path but demonstrated remarkable resilience and focus. He passed his Maths GCSE, engaged fully in activities like DofE and E-sports, supported peers, and volunteered with Explorers, showing determination, leadership, and a positive attitude throughout.

Caitlin

Lucy

Lucy has had a highly successful journey, progressing to Level 2 English and achieving Level 1 and Entry 3 Maths.

She now travels to college independently, applies strategies from the Autism and Me curriculum, and engages confidently in enrichment trips and new experiences.

She attends Extension Studies Animal Care, completed a placement at Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, and is preparing to progress to Level 1 Animal Care.

Kiera

Kiera began at the NEET base — a programme for young people who are Not in Education, Employment, or Training. Although she arrived with strong GCSEs, she was unsure of her next steps.

She excelled in the Re-Engage programme, particularly in Hospitality, supporting peers and gaining experience in a local café. With guidance, she transitioned successfully into Level 1 Animal Care.

Kiera’s resilience, adaptability, and determination make her journey truly inspiring.
