Bring your creative visions to life. On this course you will learn the fundamentals of design and develop your own voice, making you ready to confidently progress on to university or into the design industry.
Course Overview
Work in dedicated studio spaces equipped with the latest Adobe Creative Cloud software, including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, ensuring you have the tools needed to bring your creative visions to life.
In addition to this, learners will also have access to an extensive range of specialist workshops, including printmaking, darkroom facilities, woodworking, metalworking, ceramics, plaster, and stone.
What will I study?
The Level 3 UAL Extended Diploma in Graphic Design develops learners’ theoretical and technical skills, knowledge and practices relevant to the graphic design industry, higher education and employment.
Whilst this programme has a strong intention to prepare learners for Higher Education, alongside this there is the aim of equipping learners with the wider transferable skills that would benefit them and aid them to move directly into work within the industry.
The course embeds the initial roles and responsibilities expected within the creative industries and explores and develops skills in using specialist materials, tools and equipment to develop an understanding of visual communication principles.
The course involves:
- Graphics
- Printmaking
- Illustration
- Digital imaging
- Animation
- Typography
- Plus, many more elements.
Learners will also gain health and safety and Copyright Law awareness.
Learners will be assessed through practical projects and written assignments.
L3 will also take part in Work Experience within the Creative Industries. This will include putting on their own exhibitions and showcase events.
The learner will leave the programme with a Level 3 extended diploma qualification, but also crucially they will have a professional portfolio that showcases their skills. Learners will also have an increased confidence and independence to carry them to their next steps.
Entry Requirements
- Five GCSEs at grade 9-4, including Maths, English and an art-related subject, and a strong portfolio of work.
- They must display a keen interest in Graphics / Art and Design and have some exciting visual work to show/discuss to support their interest in the subject area.
Progression
UCW has a degree in Graphic design.
Trip Information
- Education Visits to local and national museums and galleries ( eg. Bristol, Oxford & London)

- We will give out a comprehensive equipment list during Welcome Day and Enrolment.
- We will provide any specialist equipment needed for workshops.
- Access to Adobe Creative Suite
Timetable
15.5 hours split over 3 or 4 days with the opportunity to retake GCSE M&E alongside for progressing learners.
