The level 3 Art, Design & Communication programme is for aspiring creatives looking to pursue a specialist career in the Creative Industries. The programme provides learners with the necessary industry skills, knowledge and understanding to access appropriate entry level roles, training programmes or apprenticeships in the creative sector, or apply for progression to related Higher Education courses upon completion of the two-year programme.
What will I study?
The year 1 programme gives learners an in-depth introduction to the creative industries, along with a broad foundation of related knowledge, skills and attributes associated to the creative process. These workshops aim to also encourage learners to think about the different progression pathways.
Year 2 provides learners with the opportunity to build a diverse and rich portfolio of work as they explore various disciplines and career aspirations.
This course involves:
Materials, techniques, and processes Ideas, concepts, and visual communication Contextual studies Painting, printmaking, and graphic image making Surface pattern Observational drawing Exciting industry trips Work Experience
How will you be assessed?
Students will be assessed through practical projects in studios and workshops and written assignments
L2 and L3 will also take part in Work Experience within the Creative Industries. This course will include putting on their own exhibitions and showcase events. No set hours and college can support with obtaining a work experience placement.
Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs at grade 9-4, including Math, English and an art-related subject . They must display a keen interest in Art and have some exciting visual work to show/discuss to support their interest in the subject area.
Progression
The programme builds on students’ prior experience, linking skills already acquired with ideas and challenges, which will expand their critical independence and enable them to demonstrate a full understanding of the relevant standards necessary to progress to Higher Education or to a career of their choice.
Trip Information
Education Visits to local and national museums and galleries ( eg. Bristol, Oxford & London) Residentials to London and Cornwall. (Overnight trips to inspire and inform creative practice)
Uniform Information
We will give out a comprehensive equipment list during Welcome Day and Enrolment. We will provide any specialist equipment needed for workshops.
Timetable
Timetable depends on level, typically 3 or 4 days also depending on whether learners need to do Maths and English. UAL Foundation Diploma in Art and Design (Pre-Degree) - Timetable is 12 core hours plus 1.5 hours of tutorials and 1.5 hours of steps (employability sessions)
