Our Art programmes at Levels 1, 2, 3 and foundation provide learners with access to a wide range of specialist workshops, including printmaking, darkroom facilities, woodworking, metalworking, ceramics, plaster, and stone. These workshops support hands-on learning and the development of technical skills across various disciplines. Learners will also benefit from dedicated studio spaces equipped with the latest Adobe Creative Cloud software, including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, allowing for the integration of digital tools into their creative practice, whether exploring foundational skills at Level 1 or refining advanced techniques at Level 3."
What will I study?
This Level 1 Diploma in Art, Design, Media and Performance will introduce learners to a range of
skills within the art, design and media. Learners will gain an understanding of the roles and diverse
skillsets within the creative industry, whilst developing the personal and professional
characteristics required for progression into their chosen industry.
This course involves:
- Drawing and painting
- Graphic design
- Print making
- Textiles
- Animation and 3D design
- Health and safety procedures
- Work of other artists, designers, and crafts people.
- Introduction to materials, processes and skills in art, design, and media
- Introduction to contextual research in art, design, and media
- Introduction to communication skills in art, design, and media
- Solving 2D and 3D creative problems
- Solving time-based creative problems
Learners will develop the specific skills and attributes that are required for communicating with an audience and individuals in the class when developing their own art and design, media and performance outcomes.
How will you be assessed?
Practical projects in studios and workshops, and written assignments
A minimum of five GCSEs at grade 3-1 with at least two at grade 3 or the successful completion of a prevocational programme.
They must display a keen interest in Art have some exciting visual work to show/discuss to support their interest in the subject area.
Trip Information
Education Visits to local and national museums and galleries ( eg. Bristol, Oxford & London)
Residentials to London and Cornwall. (Overnight trips to inspire and inform creative practice)
Uniform Information
- We will give out a comprehensive equipment list during Welcome Day and Enrolment.
- We will provide any specialist equipment needed for workshops.
Timetable
- Timetable depends on level, typically 3 or 4 days also depending on whether learners need to do Maths and English.
- UAL Foundation Diploma in Art and Design (Pre-Degree) - Timetable is 12 core hours plus 1.5 hours of tutorials and 1.5 hours of steps (employability sessions)
