Weston College are National Finalists for 3 Apprenticeship Awards
Working with… Aerospace Bristol
Employers
Last year, four Media Production students were given an exciting brief from Aerospace Bristol – to create a short video to be played in the museum’s exhibition.
This live project brief saw four students gain valuable experience, as they put their theory to the test and ran a project from start to finish.
As part of this project, students carried out research on the engineering industry, planned video content and organised interviews. They also worked closely with Weston College engineering students, to get a taste of what the industry entails.
Working with... Weston Museum
Employers
Weston College works with hundreds of employers across a range of sectors to create training opportunities for students.
Among these is Weston Museum, which provides work experience opportunities for learners who face barriers to employment.
As well as matching roles to individual abilities and providing each learner with a mentor, the Museum offers their staff autism training to develop their understanding of the condition.
In recognition of its efforts, the Museum was named Disability Confident Employer of the Year at the College’s annual Business Awards.
Working with… Cre8ion
Employers
At Weston College, we feel it is important for students to meet industry professionals and get a taste for industry life. We invite businesses in, to talk to our learners and inspire the next generation.
One business that visited last year, is Bristol and Cardiff based marketing agency, Cre8ion. We asked their CEO Darrell Irwin, a few questions about his business, and the importance of engaging with tomorrow’s workforce.
Who are Cre8ion and what do you offer?
Weston College providing construction training for the region
Employers
The Construction Training Centre has been open for just over four months, and is already proving a popular destination for construction firms.
The centre was developed in response to the growing demand for a trained and skilled construction workforce, and is the first of its kind in the region.
It isn’t focussed on providing training for one industry, but is instead a ‘one-stop shop’ that offers training courses in:
Digital T Levels – opportunities for businesses to spot and nurture future talent
Employers
Weston College will be at the forefront of the brand new Digital T Level qualification, which will be launched to students in September 2020.
The T Level qualification is a highly technical alternative to A Levels, and is part of the Government’s commitment to giving people access to high-quality training opportunities.
Construction Training Centre gets thumbs up from employers
Employers
Having recently written about the precarious situation in which further education currently finds itself, it’s great to be able to discuss a far more positive subject.
Our newly built Construction Training Centre has been open a few months now and has, so far, been met with universal approval.
College wins contract to deliver workplace training
Employers
Weston College has won a contract to provide workplace training that meets the needs of individuals, employers and the region.
The College will deliver Skills Support for the Workforce (SSW) and Skills Support for Redundancy (SSR) programmes across the West of England until April 2021.
The contract was awarded by Serco, which operates SSW in partnership with a network of high-quality training providers.
Weston College surpasses 600 pledges
Employers
Weston College has smashed through its target of creating 600 work-related learning opportunities in six months.
The ambitious ‘600 in 6’ campaign aimed to persuade businesses to ‘pledge’ a range of opportunities to help learners gain the knowledge and they skills they need in workplace. These include apprenticeship, traineeship and work experience places.
It expanded on last year’s successful drive to create 200 apprenticeship vacancies in 100 days by including the College’s full range of work-based training services.
