Last month, our Travel and Tourism and Business students received an insightful guest lecture from Border Force members, Darren and Andy, giving learners a deeper understanding into the potential careers within Border Force and the possible progression routes.  

This week, one of our third-year Plumbing & Heating Technician apprentices, Jack Winstone, has been awarded a prestigious £1,000 bursary for tools from the Worshipful Company of Plumbers in partnership with Monument Tools. This bursary is one of only six awarded nationally, making Jack’s achievement particularly remarkable.

This week, Weston College hosted the Beauty Therapy South West Skills Challenge endorsed by WorldSkills UK for the second year in a row, with one of our Weston College students, Aimee Thomas, taking 2nd place after Bath College. This was an excellent opportunity for students from across the South West to compete in a range of techniques in a professional, time-sensitive environment. 

We spoke with Twisted to learn more about how they work alongside our digital learners, supporting their development and providing opportunities for them to build valuable skills and experience within the digital industry.

Could you please introduce yourself and outline your role at Twisted?

Last week, our Hospitality and Catering students welcomed members of the Catering Services Branch from the Royal Navy, who delivered an engaging presentation about careers within the service, the opportunities available, and the benefits of working as part of their team.

Recently, our Photography and Fashion students were given a rare behind-the-scenes look into the world of high-fashion editorial and celebrity styling when Weston-super-Mare hair stylist, Adam Garland, 

On Friday 6th March, as part of Women in Construction Week, Weston College hosted a Women in Construction Roundtable at our South West Skills Campus in collaboration with the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority.

What began four years ago as a bold idea at Weston College has now spread across the county: the Jobcentre Takeover Day, part of AoC National Colleges Week and National Careers Week 2026, is giving hundreds of unemployed adults the chance to explore new careers, gain vital skills, and connect directly with potential employers.

Recently, our Uniformed Protective Services students took a trip to RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, giving them the opportunity to explore an operational RAF Station and gain first-hand experience and insight into a career within the RAF. 

Weston College was delighted to welcome the National Youth Theatre to deliver its IGNITE Your Creativity programme, a series of fully funded, industry-led workshops designed to inspire and engage students from across a wide range of creative and technical curriculum areas.
