Learning Support

Our college is committed to supporting you no matter your course or background. We offer personalised learning support across all campuses to tailor to individual needs, delivered by specialist staff with expertise in areas such as autism, ADHD, mental health, SpLD, hearing loss, and sight loss. Using a graduated response and the Assess–Plan–Do–Review process, we provide support in and out of the classroom. This may include assistive technology, learning adjustments, or wellbeing support, helping students progress towards their future goals.

Welfare

At Weston College, we have a friendly Welfare and Wellbeing Team who will provide support and guidance about any concerns or issues you face throughout your time at college.

Financial Support

To ensure you have equal opportunities throughout your time at college, we offer financial support to students who are eligible depending on your individual circumstances, providing you with bursaries for essential kit, required equipment, and trips to further your learning.

Travelling to College

At Weston College, we have excellent transport links to all three main campuses. Each site is accessible by road, train, and bus, with two train stations in Weston-super-Mare and nearby bus stops serving all campuses. As part of our commitment to environmental sustainability, we encourage staff and students to choose more eco-friendly travel options, helping to reduce environmental impact and benefit both the college community and the wider area.

Support with Careers

Our Careers and Employability Team provide you with guidance on university, apprenticeships, CV writing, and next steps. They support industry placements, including T Level work placements, helping you find, prepare for, and reflect on opportunities. The team also ensures that you gain valuable experience, skills, and confidence for future careers.

*Your enrolment appointment will take place at the College in the week beginning 24th August 2026. This is when you’ll come in with your GCSE results, collect your student ID and complete your final enrolment steps. You will receive an invite nearer the time.

Whether you are interested in joining the Students’ Union (SU), taking part in a club or society that interests you, or joining the Sports Academy, we have opportunities for everyone.

If you are a full-time student, you will have many opportunities to go on trips throughout your time at Weston College. We encourage you to apply your classroom knowledge to real-world settings, meet industry professionals, and create memories and experiences that last beyond your college years.

Not only do you have opportunities to go on trips within your course, but Weston College has also been awarded a bursary through the Turing Scheme for next year to provide students with international opportunities. This is a global programme for studying and working abroad which enables students—especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds—to gain the confidence, skills, and international experience that employers value.

The funding will support placements this academic year in Canada, the USA, Indonesia, and Thailand, giving students the chance to immerse themselves in new cultures, develop global citizenship skills, and gain hands-on industry experience.

Last year, students had the opportunity to go to fantastic countries such as New York, Nashville, and Canada, providing them with unforgettable memories and developing their skills both personally and professionally.

The Students' Union (SU) is made up of Student Representatives and Student Executives to help drive improvements across the college, putting students first when important decisions are made and representing the student body.

This elected team of students work together to create a diverse and inclusive community, encouraging engagement in trips, events, clubs & societies.

Recently, a group of sixth form students joined thousands of pupils across the UK in taking part in the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Lessons from Auschwitz programme, marking a huge milestone for the initiative. With this most recent visit, over 20,000 students and teachers have now participated in the Trust’s transformative educational journey to the site of the former Nazi concentration and death camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau. Now in its fourteenth year, the Lessons from Auschwitz project aims to educate post-16 students and teachers about the Holocaust through a powerful combination of historical context, personal testimony, and direct experience. The programme is based on the belief that “hearing is not like seeing” and uses immersive, first-hand encounters to bring the reality of the Holocaust to life in ways that classroom learning alone can't. <drupal-entity alt=""auschwitz-birkenau building"" data-align="center" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="0e7bfefc-0765-48fc-9e0d-fd653f20cd0e" data-embed-button="file_browser" data-entity-embed-display="image:image" data-entity-embed-display-settings="{"image_style":"content_wisth_1200","image_link":"","image_loading":{"attribute":"lazy"}}"> </drupal-entity>The four-part course begins with an orientation seminar focusing on Jewish life in Europe before the Second World War. This foundation provides context, helping students understand the lively and diverse communities that were devastated by the Holocaust. The seminar also features the testimony of a Holocaust survivor, offering a deeply personal perspective on events that are too often reduced to statistics. Following this, students travel to Poland, where they visit the town of Oświęcim—known today as the site of Auschwitz, but once a thriving community in which 58% of the population was Jewish before the war. The visit to the Auschwitz camp introduces participants to the harrowing conditions faced. There, they witness the preserved barracks and haunting displays of seized belongings, including piles of shoes, suitcases, glasses, and human hair. Students walk through the infamous railway gates, stand on the ramp where selections were made, and visit the ruins of the gas chambers and crematorium. The day ends with a candle-lighting ceremony and a period of quiet reflection, honouring the memory of the millions who were unjustly killed. Our A Level History lecturer, Katie Moran, who accompanied four students on this recent trip described the experience as “emotional and sobering.” She added: “Walking through the gates of Auschwitz, standing on the ground where over a million lives were taken, and witnessing the remains of Birkenau was an emotional and sobering experience that words can barely capture. Seeing the piles of shoes, suitcases, and hair made the scale of the Holocaust feel devastatingly real. It was a stark reminder of the human stories behind the statistics we often teach in the classroom.” The students showed maturity and empathy. For them, the visit was not only about understanding the past but also about learning the responsibility that comes with remembrance. On the evening of April 3rd, students from a range of fashion and creative courses at Weston College came together to showcase their talent at Elevate, a spectacular fashion show held in the Regency Suite on the Grand Pier.  This event gave learners the chance to present their work on a professional catwalk in front of friends, family, and the public. Also, the £321 raised from ticket sales will be donated to Weston Hospicecare. The show featured collections and designs from <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/art-d…; rel="noreferrer noopener" title="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/art-d…; target="_blank">A Level Fashion and Textiles</a> students, <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/art-d…; rel="noreferrer noopener" title="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/art-d…; target="_blank">Extended Diploma Fashion, Business and Retail</a> students, and <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/hair-…; rel="noreferrer noopener" title="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/hair-…; target="_blank">Fashion, Theatre, Special Effects and Media Make-Up</a> students. Some examples include explorations of the architectural contrast within the National Trust’s Tyntesfield House, designs focused on the healing potential of flora, and investigations into the psychology of nostalgia through brain scans and synaptic imagery. From intricate Sashiko-inspired patterns to visual critiques of the denim industry’s environmental impact, these students demonstrated powerful, individual visions that reflected deep personal engagement with their themes.  The creativity didn’t stop at the garments. Students and Community Brought Together for the Elevate Fashion Show

Protective Services students before their 26 mile stretcher relay race

This year’s Raising and Giving Week (RAG Week) at Weston College was a great example of collaboration across all subject areas. With the theme of ‘Flower Power’, the college came together to raise money for two incredible local charities: Weston Hospicecare and The Grand Appeal.  Weston Hospicecare offers vital palliative care for individuals with life-limiting illnesses and provides essential emotional support for their families. The Grand Appeal supports Bristol Children’s Hospital, helping to deliver life-saving care for sick children and their loved ones. The funds raised throughout RAG Week were split evenly between these two amazing charities.  Throughout the week, students and staff took part in a wide variety of fundraising events, ranging from raffles and bake sales, to more active sessions such as sponsored walks, races and football matches. This week takes place every year across the country and is a fantastic way for all students to get involved and take part in fun activities before exam season begins.  Outside of the activities, many people took the flower power theme seriously, with departments such as <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/healt…; rel="noreferrer noopener" title="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/healt…; target="_blank">Health and Social Care</a> and <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/perfo…; rel="noreferrer noopener" title="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/perfo…; target="_blank">Performing Arts</a> dressed up in bright colours and 70s-style clothes. Many departments also organised bake sales across each campus as these are always popular and delicious.  Across the week, <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/prote…; rel="noreferrer noopener" title="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/prote…; target="_blank">Protective Services</a> hosted two major events: a flower-themed two-hour Zumbathon open to all, and a five-hour stretcher relay along the seafront, covering 26 miles. Five were donated to care homes, where students also spent time chatting with residents and sharing biscuits. The remaining three were sold in a silent auction for staff.  Sports-related fundraising included football matches and gym challenges, and the <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/motor…; rel="noreferrer noopener" title="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/motor…; target="_blank">Motor Vehicle</a> department added some competition with a Gran Turismo racing challenge using their driving rig, where participants completed a sighting lap and a timed lap.  Overall, the week brought together students and staff from every campus of the college, with each subject area contributing in its own way, helping to create a fun, inclusive, and impactful week. In total, RAG Week raised £5112 for Weston Hospicecare and The Grand Appeal.  Thank you to everyone who helped organise, get involved, or donate.
