STUDYING BEAUTY THERAPY AT WESTON COLLEGE

A qualification in beauty can lead to several successful careers in the industry and enable you to perform professional treatments. On average a beauty therapist starts on a salary of £15,000 and with experience and higher qualifications this can go up to £20,000.
All courses are taught by industry experts in the Hair and Beauty Centre at the Knightstone Campus, where you will get real client experience.
There are two routes to choose from:
- Full-time - at the Hair and Beauty Centre
- Apprenticeship – work-based training in the surrounding area with regular sessions at the Hair and Beauty Centre

THE FACILITIES
All hair and beauty programmes are based in the Hair and Beauty Centre, at the Knightstone Campus.
- The Hair and Beauty Centre includes five purpose-built, industry standard salons including, hairdressers, barbers, beauty salon, a nail salon and a specialist media make-up facility
- The Hair and Beauty Centre is open to the public giving you regular, real client experience ensuring you are ready for the industry
- All the Hair and Beauty Centre lecturers have many years experience working in the sector, so you will be learning from experts with current and relevant knowledge
- Plus, you will have the opportunity to experiment with different styles and techniques, displaying them at our end-of-year hair and beauty show.

<p>As a business and from a personal perspective, I believe it’s vitally important to support education, training and the development of all students at Weston College.</p>
<p>This opinion is twofold for me, first of all I was indeed a student at Weston College myself, before embarking on my career. Secondly my eighteen-year-old son has just graduated from Loxton Campus with three A-Levels. These qualifications earned him a well-deserved place in a Business School at a Cambridge University campus, to say I am proud of him is an understatement.</p>
<p>There is so much talent within Further Education, and I strongly believe that as employers we should be investing in young people who will become the leaders of our businesses in the future.</p>
<p>Interaction between industry and education is very important. Students need to be able to navigate their way through from classrooms and coursework to a career and the workplace – with practical experience and industry knowledge playing a critical part in development.</p>
<p>Through Weston College’s Hair and Beauty Career Excellence Hub, we are able to get involved and support students, whether that be through delivering masterclass sessions, playing a part in the development of curriculum or offering work experience.</p>
<p>As a business, we also want to grow our team, and see Weston College students as the perfect candidates to be valued members of our team.</p>

<p>Hair and Beauty is an exciting, fun and fulfilling industry to work in, it is responsible for over 250,000 jobs in the UK and is rapidly increasing! With the UK aiming for high career growth as it emerges from the pandemic, employers are wanting to recruit the best talent to succeed in a post Brexit economy. We aim to provide our learners with the perfect learning environment for them to reach their full potential in their chosen career path!</p>
<p>Career Excellence Hubs have been launched to allow learners to develop skills for life, it allows students to take part in their chosen study programme filled with lots of career boosting benefits, preparing them to be career ready when their programme has been completed.</p>
<p>Through the Hair and Beauty Career Excellence Hub our learners have the opportunity to work within state-of-the-art industry-standard facilities which include a total of five purpose-built commercial salons, a nail salon and a specialist media make-up facility. With these facilities our learners can develop their soft and hard skills catered to their chosen career path and equip them with employability skills that they can use to succeed in their future careers. Career Excellence Hub is endorsed by local businesses such as The Hair Bar, Beauty Spot, Weston Beauty Clinic and M Beauty. These endorsers have helped develop the courses to provide our learners with enhanced work experience and ‘real world learning’.</p>

<p>On Saturday 6 November the Fashion, Theatre, Media Hair and Make-up students joined dancers at the Winter Gardens for Strictly Fun Dancing.</p>
<p>The Level 3 Diploma in Fashion, Theatre and Media Hair and Make-Up is an occupational qualification that provides learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills to work as a make-up artist. The students volunteered their skills to do the hair and make-up for the dancers for this annual charity event.</p>
<p>Hair styles included chignons, wigs, bouncy curls and the make-up included skincare preparations, eyeshadow, primer makeup, both liquid and cream products for sheer coverage, plus glitters, contouring and lashes.</p>
<p>Sandra Bull, Dean of Faculty, said: “At Weston College we passionately believe in supporting every person that walks through the door to reach their ultimate goal, by focussing on future employability and developing the skills needed to have a successful career. Today did just that, by providing an element of work experience for our learners who are on their vocational programmes.”</p>
<p>A spokes person for Weston Hospicecare said: "We are delighted to be joined by a group of Weston College students and their tutors at our Strictly Fun Dancing event at the Winter Gardens. The students were incredible and helped the majority of our dancers prepare for their five minutes of fame on the dancefloor. From hair (including a black gents wig!), makeup and stylings all the students were super-professional. We look forward to welcoming them back in 2022!"</p>
<p>Devon one of the students said: "I'm always ready to learn new things and this experience today has been so exciting, it has been amazing to be part of strictly."</p>
