Designed for learners who want a supportive, hands-on route into the digital industry, this course helps you explore different areas of computing while growing your confidence and practical abilities.
Course Overview
The Vocational Studies Certificate is a one-year Level 1 programme designed to introduce you to key areas of the digital sector. Whether you’re interested in software, cybersecurity, networking, web development or data, this course gives you the foundations you need to progress.
At Knightstone Campus, you’ll learn in purpose-built classrooms designed to enhance your studies, and benefit from high-quality facilities and industry-standard software. You will take part in activities designed with employers, helping you gain the experience and confidence required to thrive in this fast-growing sector.
Our computing staff are experienced, supportive, and will guide you through each unit while helping you build the essential organisational and study skills needed for further training.
As a Weston College learner, you’ll also join our Digital Career Excellence Hub, giving you access to industry-led projects, employer encounters, and opportunities that help you become career ready.
What will I study?
You will explore a range of topics across the digital industry. The Level 1 course focuses on six core modules:
- Being Organised
- Developing a Progression Plan
- Programming
- Branding a Product
- Creating a Storyboard
- Creating a Website
You will also gain experience in wider computing areas such as:
- Networking
- Databases
- Cybersecurity
- Web development fundamentals
These units build practical understanding and introduce you to different career pathways in computing.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is entirely coursework-based and includes:
- Practical projects
- Written assignments
- Group work and collaborative tasks
Additional Information
- You will have opportunities to take part in exciting trips
- All software needed for the programme is provided free of charge as part of your student access.
- While not essential, having a laptop or PC at home will help support your coursework.
- As part of our Career Excellence Hub, you will benefit from employer engagement, real-world digital tasks, and career-focused activities.
Entry Requirements
A minimum of five GCSEs at grades 3–1, or equivalent.
