Travel and Tourism, Extended Certificate
This course gives you an introduction to the tourism industry, covering areas like travel, customer service, and holiday planning.
With a mix of coursework, exams, trips, and work experience, it prepares you to progress to Level 3 Travel and Tourism or start a career in the industry.
What will I study?
The course is split into different units allowing learners to explore different areas of tourism. E.g.
- UK tourism
- International Tourism
- Customer Service (e.g. Cabin Crew)
- Business in Tourism
- Holiday Planning for customers
How will I be assessed?
The course has two exams, with the other 9 units being coursework based.
The course is 60% coursework
Entry requirements
You’ll need a minimum of five GCSEs at grades 9–2 (with at least two at grade 4) or a qualifying Level 1 qualification. Maths and English are not required, but you must show a genuine interest in the subject and potential careers in the field.
Progression
This programme is a stepping stone option for people to access the Level 3 Travel and Tourism course
Timetable
Four days a week, with some half days depending on learners needs to complete Maths or English.
Trips
Trips are planned based on demand, with a large foreign residential likely once every two years trips in the past have been to New York.
There are local trips such as Thorpe Park, Travel Mendip Activity Centre where you partake in free activities and Winter Wonderland.
A lot of work experience takes place at the airport where you can get involved in a multitude of roles
