Sports Coaching & Physical Education, BTEC Extended Diploma
If your passion is to become a coach or teacher of sport, this is the course for you. Learning through a mixture of theory and practise, you will develop the skills needed to teach a wide range of topics in the sports and fitness sector.
This qualification has been developed in consultation with employers and professional bodies. This ensures that the content is appropriate and consistent with current industry practice to enable learners to enter employment directly in a sports coaching and performance roles. Higher education institutions have also been consulted to ensure that the qualification allows appropriate progression for those aspiring to higher-level study.

What does this course involve?
This is a career focused qualification with industry endorsement and accreditation. It enables you to develop underpinning knowledge, technical skills and to gain experience within the coaching performance industry.
It is endorsed by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMPSA) who have confirmed that the qualification is fully mapped to its professional standards of ‘multi-skills sports coach’ and ‘safeguarding and protecting children’.
This is a ‘licence to practice’ programme and as such you will work towards qualifying as a multi-skills sports coach, alongside wider roles, such as sports analyst, strength and conditioning coach and sports psychologist. Year 1 option available for 18+ learners who are looking to pursue a career within the sports sector. The 1-year qualification will work towards you qualifying as a ‘CIMSPA’ recognised Assistant Sports Coach and allow you to progress onto Higher-Education.
How will the course be assessed?
This qualification is assessed by exams, coursework, presentations and practical activities.
What future study opportunities and careers are there?
This programme will open a number of doors for you, including enabling you to progress onto a degree in Sport Studies or Sport Studies (Football) at University Centre Weston. Additionally, you can progress to university to study sports coaching and performance related fields, or gain employment in a variety of areas, including youth work, sports coaching, sports analysis and sports psychology.
