Youth Work Practice, Certificate

The Level 3 Youth Work Practice Certificate is a qualification designed for individuals who are passionate about working with young people and want to make a positive impact on their lives. This course equips learners with the knowledge, skills, and understanding necessary to effectively support young people, enhance their well-being, and empower them to achieve their goals.

Youth workers work typically with young people aged between 11 and 25. Their work seeks to promote young people’s personal and social development and enable them to have a voice, influence and place in their communities and society.

The Level 3 Certificate in Youth Work Practice is suitable if you need minimal support and is the qualification required for those wishing to work as a JNC qualified Youth Support Worker. This is for employees who deliver operational youth work and who undertake duties on their own initiative or who carry supervisory responsibility for small projects, such as one night a week club. Workers with these responsibilities will receive leadership and operational guidance from professionally qualified youth workers.

The Level 3 Youth Work Practice Certificate provides a pathway to a rewarding career in a range of settings such as youth clubs, schools, community centres, and other youth-focused organizations. Potential job roles include youth worker, community development worker, outreach worker, and project coordinator.

Upon completion of this qualification, you may wish to progress onto a Level 4 Diploma in Youth Work Practice, or a related qualification in a specialist area such as working with young offenders or mental health. You may also wish to pursue higher education such as a degree in youth work or related field.

Areas covered will include:

  • Key purpose, principles, and values of youth work
  • Where youth work takes place
  • How to safeguard young people in youth work
  • How young people develop
  • The role of youth work in supporting young people’s development to adulthood
  • Understanding rights
  • Engaging and communicating with young people
  • Strategies for leading effective group work
  • How to work with young people to manage conflict and challenging behaviour
  • How to lead work-based practice under supervision
  • How to reflect on your practice at an appropriate level.

    Assessment Method

Assessment for this qualification is through a combination of written assignments, reflective journals, and practical assessments. You will be required to demonstrate your understanding of key principles and practices of youth work and provide evidence of your ability to apply this knowledge in practical situations.
