On September 30th, our Engineering Apprentices attended a Sustainability Conference in the Winter Gardens Ballroom where they received guest lectures from a range of employers and industry professionals regarding their approach to sustainability in the workplace and how they are incorporating it into their systems.  

Plate Welder, Apprenticeship

Become a specialist in one of the most in-demand engineering trades. As a plate welder apprentice, you’ll learn how to weld large components used in construction, shipbuilding, manufacturing, and major engineering projects – all while earning a wage and gaining real industry experience.

Port Operative, Apprenticeship

Begin your engineering journey at the heart of a working port. You’ll develop real, hands-on skills in cargo handling, machinery operation, and logistics – all while earning and learning in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment. This apprenticeship is perfect if you’re ready to work hard, problem-solve, and become a key part of the maritime industry.

Engineering Technologies, EAL Diploma

Start building real engineering skills and step confidently into industry with this practical and technical course. You’ll work in machining, fabrication, and CNC environments at Weston College while gaining experience that will prepare you for apprenticeships or higher-level study. 

 Course Overview 

Delivered at the South West Skills Campus, our Engineering Technologies (Level 3 EAL) Diploma is designed for learners who already have some experience in engineering – or have completed a Level 2 course such as PEO.  

T Level Progression Routes

It’s T Levels Week so we want to discuss the different progression routes students can take after completing a T Level and the benefits they have on future careers. 

T Levels were officially launched in September 2020 but have already proved to be an excellent pathway for many learners, allowing them to progress onto apprenticeships, degree apprenticeships, university and full-time employment.

Last week, Weston College opened its doors to new and returning students as they embarked on the start of the new academic year.  

Over three days, each CEH area welcomed first-year students with a wide variety of activities designed to help them settle in, build friendships, and get familiar with both their learning environment and the tools they’ll be using throughout their studies.
