All of the hospitality and catering courses are based in the Grove, our kitchen and restaurant at the Knightstone Campus, which includes:
- State-of-the-art training kitchen, giving you a real industry experience
- Commercial cafe and restaurant, serving hot and cold drinks, breakfast, lunch and three-course dinners to staff, students and the public - ensuring you get real-life front of house experience
- The opportunity to take part in monthly masterclasses which are opportunities to meet and learn from Michelin star chefs, artisans including bakers, butchers and fishmongers, plus trips to growers where you can learn from some of the South West’s most exciting food producers.

<p data-pm-slice="0 0 []">Last week, our <a class="ProsemirrorEditor-link" href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/hospi… and Catering</strong></a> students demonstrated outstanding professionalism and talent as they catered for more than 150 guests at the annual <strong>Celebration of Success (COS) Awards </strong>in the<strong> Winter Gardens</strong>. This prestigious event recognises the achievements of nominated students, celebrating their hard work in front of friends, family, and lecturers in a formal and inspiring setting.</p><p>The evening offered an invaluable opportunity for our students to experience the demands of a high-pressure, real-world kitchen environment. Tasked with preparing and serving a full two-course meal, the students worked seamlessly as a team to deliver exceptional food to every attendee.</p><p>The menu featured a roast turkey dinner, complete with roast potatoes, pork stuffing, roasted carrots and parsnips, red cabbage, and brussels sprouts. For dessert, guests enjoyed an elegant vanilla cheesecake with a berry coulis, which received glowing praise from attendees and staff. They also created vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free alternatives, ensuring to cater to all needs.</p><drupal-entity alt=""Roast turkey dinner with roast potatoes, vegetables and stuffing"" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="bb140a27-b6c3-4e3b-891c-569032e7e735" data-embed-button="file_browser" data-entity-embed-display="image:image" data-entity-embed-display-settings="{"image_style":"max_500x500","image_link":"","image_loading":{"attribute":"lazy"}}"> </drupal-entity><p>Beyond showcasing their culinary abilities, the event served as a powerful learning experience. Students developed crucial professional skills including time management, organisation, teamwork, and leadership—ensuring every task was completed efficiently and to a high standard. Working under real-world pressure reinforced their ability to remain composed and professional, particularly while serving guests during the event.</p><p>This hands-on experience also strengthened their confidence and provided a clearer insight into the expectations of the hospitality industry. Many students expressed how valuable it was to engage directly with clients, gaining transferable skills that will benefit them in future catering and hospitality careers.</p><p>The positive feedback received on the night was a testament to their dedication. Guests were highly complimentary of both the dishes, and the students were rightly proud of their achievements.</p><p>A huge well done to all <a class="ProsemirrorEditor-link" href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/hospi… and Catering</a> students for delivering delicious food and exceptional service at such an important event. <p data-pm-slice="1 1 []">Level 1 courses are a great way to build a foundation of knowledge around a subject, introducing you at a more flexible and slower pace whilst building your skills and preparing you to progress onto Level 2. </p><p>There are many benefits to a Level 1 course. They create a foundation of knowledge for learners, building a solid base of information and skills which make them ideal for beginners. Not only this, they also build confidence in unfamiliar areas and act as a stepping stone to more advanced qualifications. They are also more accessible and flexible to a wider range of students. </p><p>Our Level 1 courses vary in entry requirements, with most courses requiring 5 GCSEs grade 3-1 with at least two grade 3 results. On some courses, it is also required to gain at least a grade 2 in GCSE Maths and English. <p>Weston College was excited to welcome back professional chef <strong>Andy Chan</strong> for a special evening takeover where he led a hands-on masterclass with our <a href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/hospi… and Catering </a>students.</p><p>Andy, who appeared on <strong>MasterChef</strong>, is now a Development Chef at <strong>Compass Foodbuy Culinary Solutions</strong> and was previously Head Chef at <strong>Thornbury Castle</strong>. With years of industry experience, he gave students a valuable opportunity to learn directly from a top-level chef in a real restaurant setting.</p><p>Students helped prepare and serve a seasonal fine dining menu that included dishes such as Butternut Squash Hummus with Roasted Balsamic Shallots, and a choice of Grilled Mackerel Fillet or King Oyster Mushroom Scallops for starters.</p><drupal-entity alt=""Butternut squash hummus with roasted balsamic shallots nicely presented on a plate"" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="4ac19527-cfa5-4aca-bda9-1b1b6a2eb78d" data-embed-button="file_browser" data-entity-embed-display="image:image" data-entity-embed-display-settings="{"image_style":"max_500x500","image_link":"","image_loading":{"attribute":"lazy"}}"> </drupal-entity><p> </p><p>For the main course, guests could enjoy either Pan Roasted Duck Breast with Pomme Dauphine or a vegan-friendly Marinated Cauliflower dish with cumin spiced vegetables and vegan cheese.
