Vocational Technical Certificate - Working with children and Primary Settings
This course is ideal for anyone who would like a career in children's care and development. Through a combination of theoretical learning and practical experience, you will gain a deep understanding of child development, learning theories, and best practices in early years and primary education. The certificate is a comprehensive programme designed to equip you with the essential skills and knowledge to care for and educate children aged between 0 and 11 years old. It supports your progress to Level 3 qualifications, including the T level and apprenticeships.

You will become a member of our Education Career Excellence Hub. Through our extensive network of partnerships with schools and nurseries, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, applying what you've learned in a real-world setting. You will also be offered a range of guest lectures and workshops delivered by industry professionals. Our unrivalled exposure to employers will enable you to bridge the gap between theory and practice, ensuring you are well-prepared to secure your first post, or take the next step in your career.
WHAT DOES THIS COURSE INVOLVE
The course consists of 6 compulsory units that cover important areas of early years practice:
- Child development from birth to 11 years 11 months
- Play and learning
- Exploring legislation
- The role of the childcare practitioner
- Nutrition
- Physical development and physical activity
You will also be required to undertake work experience in Early Years or Primary Settings.
ASSESSMENT METHOD
You will be assessed through written coursework, presentations, and practical experiences.
FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES
You could progress to the T Level or to one of our Level 3 Education Apprenticeships.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
A genuine interest in working with people is an absolute necessity. You will also need five GCSEs at grade 3-1 with at least two at grade 3, or the successful completion of a pre-vocational programme. On enrolment you will be required to undertake a DBS check, which the College will pay for.
