Level 2
Hair Professional: Barbering, Apprenticeship
If you’re interested in barbering, this course will teach you all you need to know, while working alongside trained professionals who will show you the day-to-day fun and challenges of the industry. The apprenticeship will be very valuable in standing out to future employers, as you would have already experienced 2 years of the industry.
As a Weston College student, you will also benefit from our Career Excellence Hub, which means that you will get access to local employers, who will deliver masterclasses and help you to make contacts within the industry.
What does the course involve?
This apprenticeship will enable you to learn practical skills on the job as well as developing your theoretical skills in Weston College’s commercial salons. You will earn a wage and gain valuable work experience while also getting the benefits of being a student.
You will learn the theory and skills needed to gain employment in the industry, along with the professionalism and behaviour expected within the sector. The topics you will study include cutting men’s hair, cutting facial hair, shaving and styling men’s hair.
How will the course be assessed?
Your personal assessor will visit your salon to review your progress and we’ll assess you in our commercial salon. Once your gradebook is complete, we will agree an end-point assessment with you, which will be an externally graded three–hour trade test.
Are there any additional costs?
You will be required to purchase a kit this will be available from the college shop.
What future study opportunities and careers are there?
Most of our apprentices are kept on by their employer after they finish their programme. You could develop your skills with an advanced apprenticeship.
