Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician, Apprenticeship
As the daily tasks faced by a Motor Vehicle Technician are ever-changing, this apprenticeship is perfect for developing the vehicle maintenance skills of a school leaver (16-19) leaner who is keen to start a career in a garage, working on all systems found within a vehicle.
Studying this course means that you will also be part of our Motor Vehicle Career Excellence Hub, which is endorsed by leading employers, who are actively involved throughout your whole training programme.
What does the course involve?
The course will teach a wide range of knowledge, meaning lots of dedication and hard work in order to reach highly rewarding career prospects. For a first-hand experience of day-to-day life in work, you will be employed by a garage or dealership and work along highly experienced tradesperson.
You will attend College for one day a week for support and to learn the higher technical side of your trade. This apprenticeship covers practical and theory content including the diagnosis of modern complex motor vehicle systems and their faults such as brakes, steering and suspension, electrical and inspection.
You will also learn about employers’ rights and responsibilities, and we will work with you to develop your IT, English and maths skills. Your communication and customer service skills will also be developed.
How will the course be assessed?
You will be assessed through practical skills tests and workplace observations, online tests, assignments, and an e-portfolio.

What future study opportunities are careers are there?
The majority of our apprentices are kept on by their employers after they finish their programme. This programme could also lead to you becoming a mechanic or setting up your own garage.
