<p data-pm-slice="1 1 []">Level 1 courses are a great way to build a foundation of knowledge around a subject, introducing you at a more flexible and slower pace whilst building your skills and preparing you to progress onto Level 2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>There are many benefits to a Level 1 course. They create a foundation of knowledge for learners, building a solid base of information and skills which make them ideal for beginners. Not only this, they also build confidence in unfamiliar areas and act as a stepping stone to more advanced qualifications. They are also more accessible and flexible to a wider range of students.&nbsp;</p><p>Our Level 1 courses vary in entry requirements, with most courses requiring 5 GCSEs grade 3-1 with at least two grade 3 results. On some courses, it is also required to gain at least a grade 2 in GCSE Maths and English. <p data-pm-slice="1 1 []">Recently, our Esports and Computing students were treated to a hands-on learning experience, courtesy of a special visit from global hardware leader MSI (Micro-Star International). As part of our ongoing collaboration with the tech giant, representatives Manny and Gokhan led an exciting day filled with technical insights, real-world career inspiration, and high-performance hardware demonstrations.&nbsp;</p><p>The highlight of the session was a live PC hardware build, where students worked alongside the MSI team using cutting-edge components to assemble a high-spec gaming system. Through this practical activity, students gained understanding about the inner workings of modern computer systems — from the CPU and GPU to RAM and storage — and how different technical specifications impact overall performance, especially in demanding gaming environments.&nbsp;</p><img src="/sites/default/files/inline-images/image00035.jpeg" data-align="center" data-entity-uuid="2d9d1d29-4f08-4768-a5e5-53ec01326a5e" data-entity-type="file" alt="MSI PC" width="477" height="358"><p>Adding to the excitement, MSI showcased a 34” curved 240Hz OLED gaming monitor, giving students a first-hand look at the stunning visuals and responsiveness of top-tier gaming technology. The visual clarity and colour depth left a lasting impression and sparked discussions about the future of display tech in competitive gaming.&nbsp;</p><p>Beyond the technical skills, the session also offered an opportunity for students to engage directly with industry professionals. With the theme of ‘Flower Power’, the college came together to raise money for two incredible local charities: <strong>Weston Hospicecare</strong> and <strong>The Grand Appeal</strong>. &nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-bottom:16px;margin-left:0;margin-top:16px;"><span style="font-size:inherit;"><strong>Weston Hospicecare</strong> offers vital palliative care for individuals with life-limiting illnesses and provides essential emotional support for their families. <strong>The Grand Appeal </strong>supports Bristol Children’s Hospital, helping to deliver life-saving care for sick children and their loved ones. The funds raised throughout RAG Week were split evenly between these two amazing charities. &nbsp;</span></p><p style="margin-bottom:16px;margin-left:0;margin-top:16px;"><span style="font-size:inherit;">Throughout the week, students and staff took part in a wide variety of fundraising events, ranging from raffles and bake sales, to more active sessions such as sponsored walks, races and football matches.
