A LEVELS AT WESTON COLLEGE SIXTH FORM
Our Sixth Form provides you with the platform to express your individuality and flourish by focusing on the subjects that pique your interest.
A Levels are perfect for students who want to follow routes that include undergraduate degree-level study, degree apprenticeships or a professional career.
ARE A LEVELS FOR YOU?
- Yes - if you perform well in exams and learn better in a classroom environment.
- Yes – if you want the option of choosing a variety of subjects (study three or in some cases, four subjects) before deciding which one area of specialism you would like to pursue at university or as a career.
- Yes – if you'd like to benefit from an additional enrichment option too, you can choose one of the options below alongside your core programme to support your learning and enhance your CV and UCAS application. Choose from: Bio-medical, Business Enterprise, Creative Enterprise, Debating and Current Affairs, Extended Project Qualification, Sports Performance, Extra Tuition and more.
An A Level is a Level 3 qualification an learners typically choose three or four subjects to study over a two-year period. Which A Levels you study can affect your choices at university and your future career. Take a look at our options below to understand which subjects open up different degrees, degree apprenticeships and ultimately careers. We can also provide you with guidance at open events and at your guidance interview to help you make an informed choice.
From September 2025, Weston College will reintroduce the AS Level structure in the first year of our A Level programmes.
This means students will gain a nationally recognised qualification at the end of Year 1, worth 40% of a full A Level. AS Levels provide a strong foundation in each subject, boost confidence ahead of final exams, and offer greater flexibility, allowing students to start with up to four subjects and carry three through to full A Level in Year 2.

<p data-pm-slice="0 0 []">Following our recent Q&A session with local Labour MP, <strong>Dan Aldridge</strong>, our <a class="ProsemirrorEditor-link" href="https://www.weston.ac.uk/what-can-i-study/courses-16-18-year-olds/level… Level Politics</u></a> students received a visit from <strong>Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg</strong>, a former Cabinet Minister and Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) for North East Somerset. He shared his experiences, roles and responsibilities, and answered any questions that students had regarding his career. </p><p>Jacob Rees-Mogg remained in Parliament from 2010 to 2024, serving on many committees and Government posts. He was the <strong>Lord President of the Council and Leader of the House of Commons</strong> from 2019-2022, as well as serving as <strong>Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy</strong> and <strong>Minister of State for Brexit Opportunities and Government Efficiency</strong> in the <strong>Cabinet of Office</strong> in 2022. </p><p>During the visit, Jacob Rees-Mogg discussed topics such as whether <strong>Brexit </strong>was the right decision as he played a major and influential part in Brexit. He was initially a prominent backbench campaigner for the UK to leave the European Union and later acted as a government minister responsible for delivering on its outcomes. </p><p>Sir Jacob also discussed his memories of arguing with Margaret Thatcher regarding the handover of Hong Kong and the role of current politicians that are presenting current affairs media content. He outlined how Cabinet Government functions and what well-known politicians are like in real life having worked alongside many of them. It is this industry insight that gives our students a better understanding of life as a politician and the responsibilities that accompany this type of career. </p><p>Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg not only answered any questions the students had regarding his experiences in parliament, but also encouraged students to get involved in whatever way they could, no matter their political party preference. This increases their understanding of local politics, gives them more experience for their careers, and gives them a voice for their future. </p><p>Having such an influential Member of Parliament engage with our students was a very important part of their political journey and a core memory from their A Level experience. <p data-pm-slice="0 0 []">Last week, Weston College opened its doors to new and returning students as they embarked on the start of the new academic year. </p><p>Over three days, each CEH area welcomed first-year students with a wide variety of activities designed to help them settle in, build friendships, and get familiar with both their learning environment and the tools they’ll be using throughout their studies. </p><p>The college executive team ran Welcome Talks across Knightstone, Loxton and South West Skills campus in order to introduce themselves to the students and outline the expectations for the upcoming year.
